CASE STUDY

The Catholic Youth Education Centre KANA

Students representing schools participating in the "Classy Fourth Power. School Media Concern' Project are working full steam ahead!

The 'Classy Fourth Power. School Media Concern.' is an educational initiative aimed at high schools students from the Lesser Poland, Subcarpathian and Silesian regions. Teams of six students, supervised by teachers, participate in training courses dealing with the craft of journalism.

In this way the young adults find out about the jobs of an editor-in-chief, journalist, translator, graphics and IT expert, PR specialist. Also they have the opportunity to meet media celebrities as well benefit from additional e-learning courses and specially designed coursebooks. However, what is of utmost importance is the fact that the young 'journo wannabes' create their own information portals, thus successfully putting theory into practice. In all these efforts they are supported by their teachers/tutors, who have prepared for these roles through participation in coaching workshops.

The highlight of this educational project is a competition for best school media concern. The websites will be evaluated by the jury of media experts. Attractive prizes await the winners, the main one being a two-week language course in the United Kingdom. The pilot edition prizewinners (in 2008/2009 school year) spent two weeks in Kingston the suburbs of London.

Since November 2009 the I edition has been underway. Please visit the project website for information about particular stages of project implementation.

All students and teachers interested in taking part in this educational initiative are welcome to visit the project website: www.czwartawladza.edu.pl or contact the KANA Gliwice office - tel. + 48 32 230 89 41 (from 9:00 to 15:00).
